February 14th

Valentine's Day

(Saint) Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14 by many people throughout the world. In the West, it is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine's cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionery. The day was originally a pagan festival that was renamed after two Early Christian martyrs named Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

The day is most closely associated with the mutual exchange of love notes in the form of "valentines". Modern Valentine symbols include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged
Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten notes have largely given way to mass-produced greeting cards. The sending of Valentines was a fashion in nineteenth-century Great Britain, and, in 1847, Esther Howland developed a successful business in her Worcester, Massachusetts home with hand-made Valentine cards based on British models. The popularity of Valentine cards in 19th century America was a harbinger of the future commercialization of holidays in the United States.

The U.S. Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately one billion valentines are sent each year worldwide, making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year, behind Christmas. The association estimates that, in the US, men spend on average twice as much money as women.

That's how it should always be! jk. no, yes, no, maybe, wait. yes, no, er nvmd! haha so tis the day. February 14th. A day where either you're friggin stoked about it or you're dreading your life being alive on this day. or maybe like this picture people just despise the day for some apparently odd reason:

but let's all look on the bright side of this lovers day filled with hearts! pink hearts! and alot of hearts and pink! i think Valentine's Day is by far my FAV fo sheez just cause it's HEART day! i just absolutely HEART hearts & the color pink! a day where I'm free to color everything PINK and draw HEARTS everywhere! pink cupcakes, pink heart socks, pink heart cookies, pink kaytee, pink eyeballs cuz my eyes are like blood shot right now, pink is my favorite color if u did not catch on by now..

also, i just really enjoy this day because when you roam the streets of LA during the day and look at almost every major street corner.. the good Samaritans of the Hispanic culture will set up these tables that sell these cute little baskets that have bears holding a heart and ever since i moved to LA I've never been seized to be amazed at the dedication of these great people selling these cute BEAR BASKETS! that kinda look like this:

i love it! i'm really not emphasizing any sarcasm when i talk about these bear baskets! i really think these great samaritans are genius!! it's a great idea! and i'm sure they sell out quick! but don't worry cuz if you walk to another street i'm sure there will always be a plentiful amount of these decadent bear baskets today! and honestly, til this day i have secretly always wanted to receive one but have yet to and i think it wouldn't mean as much to me if i bought one for myself.. and i'm PRETTY sure if these indian extremist were to get in on these bear baskets they wouldn't be overwhelming their tolerance of HATERade!

so in conclusion, HAPPY VALENTINE's DAY!

-live productively
